3/27/2007 Newport Scientific Research Announces Strategic Alliance with TrakHealth
Newport Scientific Research Announces Strategic Alliance with TrakHealth to Natively Support FBiDrive Biometric Technologies in Healthcare Applications Integration of Fingerprint Identification to Increase Security and Improve Patient Care

FBiDrive Biometrics for Healthcare NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Newport Scientific Research (NSR), provider of the FBiDrive fingerprint biometric security platform, today announced a strategic alliance with TrakHealth a worldwide provider of Healthcare Information Systems.

The alliance highlights increased security needs in the healthcare industry and TrakHealths ongoing commitment to providing the most comprehensive solutions to its customers.

As a primary element of the alliance, TrakHealth will integrate support for NSRs FBiDrive fingerprint authentication into the user security subsystem of TrakCare. The TrakHealth portfolio of healthcare applications including Electronic Patient Record, Patient Master Index, TrakCare Patient Administration (PAS) and TrakCare Clinicals (CIS), are built around a core infrastructure and management tools which allow the seamless introduction of the biometric technology regardless of which modules the customer has deployed.

The biometric technology will also be integrated in order to identify patients. This addresses the growing concern of healthcare fraud, and presents the opportunity to improve patient care by reducing misidentification. There is a real opportunity to improve care, possibly even to save lives by providing a way to positively identify patients. Accidentally pulling up the wrong patient information in a system or mistyping of a patient ID could lead to prescribing medicine which the patient is allergic to, or worse, giving totally wrong treatment. We saw this as an opportunity to improve care and to reduce litigation risk for the hospital or clinic, said John Shanahan, Vice President of NSR.

The FBiDrive provides a flexible biometric platform which can be implemented to meet the unique requirements of a healthcare operational environment. The ability to meet the fast paced, multi user environments of our customers while improving security was a key factor in our adoption of the FBiDrive platform, commented Christine Chapman, COO of TrakHealth. The addition of support for biometrics helps our customers achieve improved security for patient records, reduces the opportunity for fraud, ensures the ability to audit transactions, and aids in compliance, continued Chapman.

Sophisticated application suites like TrakCare have the ability to precisely control access within applications, including information elements and transactions. But the problem is, business rules embedded in a system are only useful if you can ensure the identity of the user. Studies have consistently shown that users share passwords as a matter of convenience or other reasons, added Shanahan. Statistically, two thirds of your user base shares passwords, so how can you ensure business process enforcement? Shanahan continued.

11/9/2005 FBiSureID Technology Secures Online Banking by Removing Passwords
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 2005—

With the tremendous rise of identity theft and online fraud, the U.S. federal government has imposed new online authentication guidelines for financial institutions operating web based transactions. These guidelines are to be met by the related companies in 2006, providing a short time and lacking specific methods for compliance.

“Current solutions the banks have tested fail to reliably identify customers and defeat keyboard logging, phishing or other socially engineered fraud,” commented Jeff Crandell, Director of Product Development for Newport Scientific Research.

“The problem with tokens and other alternatives are that they really don’t fix the authentication issue, they just shorten the password life, or require additional questions to be answered. And these methods have already proven to be beaten by keyboard loggers and other Trojans,” said Crandell. “By the time a password changes in 60 seconds, your account can be empty.”

“FBiSureID represents a real solution to the problem” says Crandell. “Only by eliminating passwords can you truly defeat fraud and hacking efforts.” The FBiSureID technology replaces traditional login and password access to web sites with fingerprint identification access via the FBiDrive, bypassing the most abused weakness of protected Internet sites.

“Token systems and multi question authentication systems can already been beaten by combining keyboard logging software with automated raids on customer accounts,” says Crandell. “Therefore financial institutions using these technologies are steps behind the aggressive worldwide fraud and identity theft community.”

The patent pending FBiSureID technology is a new breed of authentication technologies which can provide two factor identification without making users enter more answers to login questions or rotating passwords. “No matter what questions financial sites ask the consumer to answer, the responses can be stolen by keyboard loggers or phishing tricksters,” says Crandell. “And unlike the question and answer game, with FBiSureID customers couldn’t reveal their access information even if they wanted to.”

Financial institutions have already tried password changing tokens, but with extremely limited results. “Less than 1% of ETrade customers signed up for password generating tokens” commented John Shanahan Jr.,Vice President of Newport Scientific Research. “We believe this is because tokens add extra steps to the login process and they are single purpose devices. People don’t want to carry a pocket full of these things.”

“With the FBiDrive and FBiSureID, users click and provide a fingerprint. They don’t even have to launch the web browser and type the web site address,” commented Shanahan. “Consumers become quickly addicted to this shortcut process. Our research has shown that widespread customer acceptance will only happen by offering security along with convenience.”

A recent CNN (NYSE:TWX) article reports that, “banks also fear a ‘necklace’ scenario in which customers end up collecting an annoying strand of tokens.” With the FBiSureID technology, consumers can use the FBiDrive device to more safely access banks with traditional login password technology while simultaneously connecting with banks that support the extremely secure fingerprint access technology.

“One of the great features of the FBiSureID technology, is that the bank never gets a copy of your fingerprint,” comments Shanahan. “A biometric password is stored at the bank, which can only be generated by the customer’s fingerprint. But the customer’s fingerprint is never exposed to anyone including bank staff and officials.”

The patent pending FBiSureID technology uses fingerprint data to generate a biometrically unique access key for each protected web site account, thus the site never acquires the consumer’s actual fingerprint. And the technology is server technology independent, allowing any standard web server and development suite to utilize it without installing third party software.

FBiSureID is currently available without a server license fee and is compatible with Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT), IBM (NYSE:IBM) Sun (Nasdaq:SUNW), Red Hat (Nasdaq: RHAT), and other standard web server and development technologies. It was designed to be easily integrated into existing online applications.

The FBiDrive is available in standard and enterprise versions and can be obtained directly from the company and through online and distribution partners.

NEWPORT BEACH , Calif.-- (BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 2005?Newport Scientific Research (NSR) today announced the availability of the IMtoGO portable instant messaging client for its FBiDrive biometric security drive.

The IMtoGO software allows users of the FBiDrive to access the large instant messaging communities of AOL (NYSE: TWX), Yahoo (Nasdaq:YHOO), and MSN (Nasdaq:MSFT) from the portable USB device. The instant messaging client is compact yet full featured and runs completely from the FBiDrive after connecting it and authenticating via a registered fingerprint.

“Adding IMtoGO to our onboard software offering compliments the Internet and privacy tools we already provide on the FBiDrive,” commented Jeff Crandell, Director of Product Development for NSR.

“Because IMtoGO runs directly from the FBiDrive, it requires no installation, and also leaves no trace on any PC where you choose to run it,” Crandell explained.

The FBiDrive is a portable biometric security device with a fingerprint sensor, flash memory storage, and onboard security and utility software. Users can plug the device into standard USB equipped Windows PCs and run the onboard software after verifying their identity by providing a registered fingerprint.

“Instant messaging has emerged as a popular and useful tool for both business and personal use,” remarked Crandell, “But running a full featured instant messaging client has required installing software, which isn't really convenient or safe when moving from PC to PC.”

The IMtoGO software resides on a locked storage area of the FBiDrive and cannot be launched without a user providing a registered fingerprint. User settings, chat history, and instant messaging service usernames and passwords are also stored in the locked storage, further protecting user privacy.

10/28/2005 Release: FBiDrive Scores High in Wired Gadget Lab
NEWPORT BEACH , Calif.-- (BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 2005--Wired Magazine's Gadget Lab reviewed the FBiDrive as a part of its regular print and online column focused on the latest in computing and consumer electronics.

The FBiDrive is a portable security product manufactured by Newport Scientific Research, LLC of Newport Beach, CA.

The review by Nicole Lee, written in the column's traditional tongue and cheek fashion, highlights the product's secured storage, web password manager, and advanced biometric fingerprint sensor which she prefers ?to one that can be fooled by Gummy Bear copies of my prints.?

The FBiDrive sensor is not susceptible to being fooled by copies of fingerprint images or gels such as ?Gummy Bears? which have consistently defeated other sensor technologies such as the less expensive optical scanners.

Lee comments about the FBiDrive unit reviewed, ?With a name like FBi, I expected this 2-Gbyte USB flash drive to be as secure as Fort Knox . It comes close.? The portable storage on the USB 2.0 unit varies with models ranging from 128 Megabytes to 4 Gigabytes.

?As a bonus, it held my web logins and passwords,? commented Lee regarding the FBiDrive's onboard software featuring an encrypted password storage and bookmark utility which makes logging into web sites as easy as a click and a fingerprint.

The software built into the drive provides security as well as convenience, keeping data locked away and inaccessible without a fingerprint, and defeating the growing threat of keyboard loggers which capture passwords as users type them.

The FBiDrive Wired review scored the product at 8 out of 10 and was published in several forms including the Gadget Lab subscription newsletter, Wired.com web site, and a special newsstand addition called Wired Test which presents many high tech product reviews just in time for holiday purchasing.
