If I do not have the intallation CD for the FBiDrive, can I still install the FBiDrive?
The installation CD is only required for the initial installation of the FBiDrive, otherwise you can plug it into any Windows PC with a USB drive. If you need the installation program included on the product CD, most software for this product can be downloaded from our website at http://www.fbidrive.com under the "Support" section.

Can I use the FBiDrive on another computer without the CD after the drive is has been installed?
Yes. Once you install the FBiDrive on the first computer, it actually prepares the drive for use on any compatible windows PC. Just connect your FBiDrive to another Windows computer with a USB port, and when prompted to install the fingerprint driver, select "Removable Disk" as the location of the driver.
(However, Windows 98/ME requires the FBiDrive Device Driver which can be downloaded from our website or use the CD provided with the product.)

What is the FBiDrive?
FBiDrive is a portable secured data storage device utilizing the built-in finger print sensor and Removable Disk connected by a USB interface to any compatible Windows computer.

Can the FBiDrive be operated with a boot disc, therefore bypassing the drive security?
FBiDrive has a built-in security lock system tied to a user fingerprint. Therefore, boot discs cannot be used to bypass the drive security.

What is the function of the LED on the FBiDrive?
The LED is green when FBiDrive is connected to a computer using a USB port. This indicates that the computer has recognized FBiDrive. Also, while reading or writing files or authenticating a fingerprint the LED will blink. Do not disconnect FBiDrive while LED is blinking. Disconnection while LED is blinking may seriously damage or destroy the data stored in your FBiDrive. In the event the data has been damaged or destroyed, you must reinstall FBiDrive by using the installation CD provided. Use the backup utility in the -459 software to protect against any data loss.

What are the operating systems that support FBiDrive?
Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP.

What are the memory capacities of the FBiDrive?
FBiDrives are available with 128M, 256M, 512M, 1G, 2G capacities. 4G capacities and modeles with 32M are available special order.

What is the average user life of the FBiDrive?
The FBiDrive is designed for long life and a wide range of operating environments. See the product specifications listed elseware on the site for read/write cycles and flash memory shelf life. For industrial applications, please contact a sales representative. Be sure to backup your FBiDrive often using the -459 backup utility in case of failure, loss, or theft.

What is the speed of the Removable Disk on the FBiDrive?
The Removable Disk in the FBiDrive is use Flash Ram that is extremely fast. However, the average speed of a USB port, V1.1, is 900 kb/sec for reading and 600 kb/sec. for writing.

Can the Removable Disk in the FBiDrive be shared on my network?
Yes. Use the file sharing functions in your version of Windows just like any other drive. The FBiDrive must be unlocked with your fingerprint using the -459 software in order for network users to access the drive.

Can the FBiDrive be used in a computer with no USB port?
No. However, you can easily install a very inexpensive USB card in any compatible Windows PC.

What should I do if an error occurs while reading or writing to the disc?
If a defective sector appears while formatting, please contact customer support. See the customer support section of this web site. If you receive an error after initial installation, close your -459 software, and unplug your FBiDrive from the USB port. Restart your computer, then plug in your drive and try again.

My computer does not recognize the FBiDrive. What do I do?
Be sure not to plug in your FBiDrive until prompted by the installation program because in some cases this will cause a failure. If your drive is not recognized, be sure to remove the drivers and start again following these steps:

Go To  "Start" Select "Control Panel"  Click on  "System"

Click on Select "Hardware" Click on "Device Manger"

In Device Manager, open the "Universal Serial Bus" section. Look for "AuthenTec AES3400 TruePrint Sensor" and select "remove" or "uninstall".

After the removal, restart your system and reinstall the FBiDrive following the device installation and application program installation steps provided with this product.
